Atlas began after graduating, when I lived in Berlin for a short time and at one point found myself going around without a map. I have a strange relationship with Berlin – been there a lot, yet I’m not a local, on the other hand, certain routes, places, structure and routines developed. I know how to navigate without a map, it’s hard to get lost, but certain stability is missing.

This pushed me into a spiral where there was a borderline feeling all the time everywhere. I became interested in how we position ourselves physically and mentally. What spaces perceive us, how much we contribute to their creation i.e functionally or emotionally. I’ve always been interested in space, but it’s such a big topic that I didn’t dare.

But now there is an opportunity and a cool team, with whom getting lost is a privilege rather than something to be afraid of.

Getriin Kotsar is a freelance artist and writer. She mostly works with themes like memories, passage of time and individual/collective loneliness. Most of her work, both performative and literary, derives from dreams, pop culture, human body and everyday life. As an artist, she thrives to create atmospheres and spaces, which are melancholy and liminal, yet aesthetically pleasing and offer a sense of security.

In her works she tries to balance the fine line of fiction and real life, structure the chaos and in addition dreams of better opportunities for freelance artists.
